NPL teams organise pre-season tourney

Ten Namibia Premier League (NPL) Clubs have organised a pre-season tournament which will take place from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 October at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

In a press released made available to Nampa on Tuesday, the 10 clubs namely African Stars, Eleven Arrows, Blue Waters, Mighty Gunners, University of Namibia, Tura Magic, Young Brazilians, Okahandja United, Life Fighters, Citizens and Julinho Sporting will tackle each other in a league format.

The statement added all the above mentioned clubs confirmed their participation.

The aim of the tournament is to get the players ready for the new season and breathe life into the football economy. The football economy consists amongst others of SME vendors, security guards and most importantly the players that make a living out of it. The proceeds from the gate takings will be shared between the participating clubs, the statement added.

The organisers are however calling the corporate world to assist with event in any kind or form so as to make the day a success.

The draw is scheduled to take place on Thursday at a venue and time to be announced.

Speaking to Nampa, on Tuesday, one of the organisers Salomo 'Gazza' Hei said the tournament is not an official NPL event, but just 10 clubs who fall under the league coming together to prepare for the envisaged new season.

We want to keep the players busy and prepare for the upcoming season. We call upon football loving Namibians to attend the tournament. Corporate world can support us in any form, he said.
