Office of the Prime Minister has refuted allegations circulating on social media

The Office of the Prime Minister (OMP) has refuted allegations circulating on social media that government officials are selling the drought relief food items for a meagre N.dollars 10.00.

The food items being distributed directly to food-insecure households consists of a 12.5 kilograms (kg) bag of maize meal or mahangu grain, 750 millilitres bottle of cooking oil and four tins of 440 kg fish.

A media statement availed by the OPM here Friday said the assertions are not factual and are harmful to the reputation and integrity of the ongoing national drought relief intervention.

It assured the nation that the Government remains focused on efforts to save lives and building resilience to reduce the vulnerability of our communities, reads the statement.

It gave assurance that in an event, where officials entrusted with drought relief are caught indulging in unbecoming behaviour, swift punitive measures will be taken.
