Omaruru to host Zeraeua Royal House tournament

WINDHOEK; The town of Omaruru in the Erongo Region will host the Chief Christian Eerike Zeraeua Royal House Cup from 04 to 05 October 2014.

Jeffrey Kavendjii of the Zeraeua Traditional Authority on Tuesday announced a sponsorship worth N.dollars 40 000 from Bucks Construction and Cleaning Services towards the two-day netball and football tournament.

The tournament will serve as the 88th year anniversary celebration of the Zeraeua Royal Family, and will be held at the Mokeba Stadium.

Speaking during a media briefing here on Tuesday, event organiser Andrew Tjahikika said the tournament will serve as a commemoration event and a way to keep the youth busy with sports rather than being at cuca-shops.

“Last year we had a N.dollars 30 000 sponsorship but this year the sponsorship has been improved to N.dollars 40 000. We are calling on all netball or football teams to come to Omaruru and have fun with us,” said Tjahikika.

N.dollars 28 000 will go towards football while N.dollars 12 000 is being set aside for the netball tournament.

The winning football team will walk away with N.dollars 14 000, while the runners-up will get N.dollars 7 000 and semi-final losers N.dollars 3 500 each.

In the netball category the winners will walk away with N.dollars 6 000. The runners-up will win N.dollars 3 000 and the semi-finals losers N.dollars 1 500 each.

Registration per team will be N.dollars 1 500 and the draw will take place at the Katutura Community Hall in Windhoek on 30 September.
