Ongwediva hosts 2019 Metropolitan Cup

Inter-regional finals of the 2019 Metropolitan-Swabou Summer Cup is scheduled to take place at the Valombola Vocational Training Centre (VVTC) at Ongwediva in the Oshana Region on Friday and Saturday.

The chief sports officer of the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service in the region, Sunday Haitembu has confirmed whilst speaking to Nampa here on Tuesday.

Football and netball school teams from the regions of Oshana, Omusati, //Karas, Oshikoto, Erongo, Ohangwena, Kavango East and Hardap will participated in the said finals.

The host Oshana Region will be represented by Ongwediva Combined School (CS) and Oshekasheka CS in soccer and netball, respectively.

Other regions are to be represented as follow: Okanghudi CS (soccer) and Onanghulo CS (netball) will represent Ohangwena Region, Erongo is to be represented by Karibib Junior Secondary School (JSS) in soccer and Atlantics JSS in netball and the Kavango East Region is to be represented by Nyangana CS in both soccer and netball this time around.

Omusati is to be represented by UUshwa CS (soccer) and John Shekudja CS (netball), //Karas delegates are Ernst Jagger JSS (soccer) and Lordsville JSS (netball), Hardap representatives are both from Danie Joubert CS (soccer and netball) and Okankolo CS (soccer) and Onkumbula CS (netball) will represent Oshikoto.

The winners of the competition in both soccer and netball will be awarded top prizes of N.dollars 15 000, floating trophies and gold medals, the runners-up will receive N.dollars 9 000 and silver medals, third prize will be N.dollars 6 000 and bronze medals and a fourth prize of N.dollars 4 000.

All eight participating teams will on Saturday receive soccer/netball kits at the end of the tournament that is sponsored by the Metropolitan-Swabou with N.dollars 450 000 for the prizes and organizations.
