Ongwediva Mayor launched the town council’s first-ever mayoral fund

Ongwediva Mayor, Angelina Angula on Thursday launched the town council's first-ever mayoral fund aimed to assist vulnerable members of the community under the pillar social progression of the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP).

Speaking at the launch, chief executive officer of the town Damian Egumbo, said talks of the Ongwediva Mayoral Fund came a long way but a resolution was only passed last year for it to come into existence.

The fund will start very small and it is expected to grow with time, said Egumbo, adding that council cannot do it alone and as a result stakeholders were brought on board to assist in ensuring that the initiative becomes successful, through the establishment of a steering committee.

The steering committee which will manage the fund, consist of nine members appointed by the council of which Angula is the chairperson.

One of its members, Iyaloo Dawid, said the fund is in line with HPP as part of government's responsibility to take care of those in need and to create a conducive environment for all to succeed.
