Ongwediva shooting victim dies

The 30-year-old Paula Rebeiro, who was shot and critically injured by her husband in Ongwediva on Friday and has been fighting for her life at the Ongwediva MediPark Private Hospital, has died Monday night.

Confirming her death to Nampa on Tuesday, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Namibian Police (NamPol) Public Relations Unit in the Oshana Region said she died around 20h20.

Her husband and owner of the Grand Pub in Ongwediva, Manuel Rebeiro, 41, committed suicide on Friday by allegedly shooting himself with a pistol in the head and died instantly.

The shooting occurred in the couple's house at the corner of the town's Ardooie and Mandume Ndemufayo streets on Friday afternoon.

The motive behind the shooting remains unknown. The next of kin are informed about their death.
