Ongwediva woman arrested for alleged concealment of birth

The police in the Oshana Region on Monday arrested a 22-year-old woman from Omwaalu village in the Ohangwena Region’s Endola Constituency after she allegedly concealed the birth of twin babies.

Inspector Thomas Aiyambo of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Community Affairs’ office in the region said the woman who now is a resident of Sky location in Ongwediva, was arrested on a charge of concealment of birth, following a tip-off from her neighbours.

Aiyambo indicated that the neighbours alerted the police after realising that she was no longer pregnant.

“The police investigators got hold of the alleged suspect, interviewed her afterwhich she led the police to the toilet where the bodies of the new-born twin girls were recovered wrapped in a black plastic bag,” Aiyambo said.

Their bodies were taken to the Oshakati police mortuary. The suspect, Aiyambo said, is detained at Ongwediva and was due to be taken to a local hospital for medical examinations.

Further police investigations into the matter continue.
