ONLY FAIR TRADE, INVESTMENT CAN BRING RELIEF TO NAMIBIA, SAYS DEPUTY PM

EENHANA, NAMIBIA, Deputy Prime Minister Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has declared that only fair trade and investment can bring relief to Namibians as they will help expand wealth, create jobs and take people out of poverty.

Speaking when she officially opened the 2017 Eenhana Trade and Business Exposition (Expo) in Ohangwena Region (Province) in northern Namibia on Wednesday, she added that the laws and regulations of trade and investment must be followed without shortcut once they are put in place.

Shortcuts will lead to corruption and corruption is Enemy Number One to development, said Nandi-Ndaitwah, who is also Minister of International Relations and Co-operation. She believes that the economy will not grow if it is characterised by corruption.

She went on to say that Namibia had set itself a target to become a logistics hub and as such, the government encouraged trade and investment by both local and international investors.

"Foreign direct investment can be in three forms, namely buying shares in the local business, opening a new business through joint ventures and opening up their own business," the deputy premier explained. Whatever the case maybe, Namibia should not be afraid of foreign investment because the people are part of the global village, she added.
