Oshakati resident burns to death in a shack

Confirming the incident, Warrant Officer Frieda Shikole-Ashiyana of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Public Relations in the Oshana Region told Nampa that Shangemwene's shack caught fire at around 05h00.

Shangemwene, 47, burnt beyond recognition inside the shack. Oshakati Town Council fire brigade could not rescue the situation, because the fire had destroyed the shack when the fire brigade personnel arrived at the scene.

According to Shikole-Ashiyana, a piece of wire was found around the neck of the deceased at the Police officers started the removal of his remains among the ashes.

It is suspected Shaningwa might have committed suicide. His next of kin have been informed about his death and the Police have opened an inquest case docket in connection with the incident, said Shikole-Ashiyana.
