Oshamukweni Combined School in the Ohangwena Region on Wednesday received two hostel blocks and an ablution facility valued at N.dollars 1.5 million from Kalahari Holdings.

Kalahari Holdings’ Marketing Manager, Tulikki Nelulu, in a media statement issued on Wednesday said most learners are from nearby villages and travel between 15 to 20 kilometres to and from school.

These learners were accommodated in corrugated iron sheets inside the school’s premises after their parents negotiated with the school for safety purposes.

“The Oshamukweni Combined School learners’ living condition of sleeping in shacks was circulated on social media last year, so Kalahari Holdings made a provision of N.dollars 1.5 million to accommodate these learners,” Nelulu said.

She indicated that the Swapo Party’s business arm then took a decision as management to give a helping hand and submit a proposal to the board, which was subsequently approved for Kalahari Holdings to make provision for the construction of the three buildings.

Nelulu said she hopes the donation will draw more good samaritans to assist the school or other schools in need.

The donation, she further explained, is set to positively impact teaching and learning at the school, before stating that 90 per cent of Kalahari Holdings’ corporate social responsibility budget is allocated to education-related matters.

The two hostel blocks for boys and girls are expected to accommodate more than 60 learners.

The school, which was established in 1975, is home to over 300 learners from pre-primary to Grade 9.
