Osona Fishing donates food items to needy households in Gobabis

The Osona Fishing Company donated 250 trays of canned fish an equal number of 750ml bottles of cooking oil and 10kg of maize meal to 125 needy households in Gobabis on Wednesday.

Each household received a tray of canned fish containing 12 cans, a 750ml bottle of cooking oil and a 10kg bag of maize meal.

The donation items total to a value of about N.dollars 101 000 and will benefit about 602 people from the 125 selected households.

The Gobabis Foodbank Coordinator and warehouse manager, Steven Richter, told Nampa in an interview that the beneficiaries are individuals who do not benefit from any other programmes offered by the government such as the drought relief and foodbank programme but are in dire need of food.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Omaheke Regional governor, Festus Ueitele said the government on its own cannot achieve the nation's developmental goals and therefore the nation needs to harness the energies and resources of the entire nation.

It is precisely for this reason that we should repeat too often our appreciation for the role of our partners, agencies, non-governmental organisations, businesses and community organisations in the transformation of community development. Said Ueitele.

The governor applauded Osona Fishing Company for the donation which he termed as outstanding, noble and generous.

In addition, Ueitele urged the beneficiaries to show gratitude for the donation by taking ownership of what they have received and to use it for what it is intended.

I encourage the community to ensure that this donation items are used for their intended purpose and that they are not sold or exchanged for alcohol at shabeens. Ueitele added.

On her part, Osona Fishing Company, board deputy chairperson, Corjaneil Christovao, noted that Osona is aware of the great misery in the communities as a result of the ongoing drought which has plagued the country for the past years.

We hope that this donation will contribute in some small measures to the government's drought relief efforts, as much as it is indicative of our rooted drive towards corporate and social responsibility. She said.

125 units of the items were distributed in Gobabis and the remaining will be distributed to selected needyhouseholds in the Aminius constituency in Novermber.

Osona Fishing Company is made up of six Namibian owned companies as fishing right holders.
