Newly recruited Citizens Football Club coach Adelinu Julio Batista has said other teams should be afraid of them as they are busy fighting their way from the bottom for the remaining fixtures of the league.

Citizens are currently bottom of the 2022/23 Debmarine Namibia Premiership with four points from 19 games played thus far. They remain the only team this season to have not won a game.

In a recent interview with Nampa the coach who took over the helm of the club last Thursday and managed to collect a point from his first fixture with league leader African Stars, said he likes taking on challenges.

“I don’t like easy things, so I chose this challenge. In the past, I coached a team called Eeshoke Chula Chula Football Club in the northern part of the country and I then took on Khomas NamPol Police women’s team. Now I am trying to go for bigger challenges, hence I took on Citizens who are bottom of the log standings,” Batista said.

He added that collecting a point from the game against African Stars over the weekend was a positive for them and they are now going to take it one step at a time with their remaining 11 fixtures of the 2022/23 Debmarine Namibia Premiership.

“I am going to take it game after game. I am ready to fight and other teams must be ready as we are going to fight to get out of the bottom, which I believe is possible,” he said.

This coming weekend Citizens, in 16th position on the log standing of 16 teams, will travel to Gobabis to face Young African who are just three points above the relegation zone in 13th position, with 22 points from 18 games played.

On Sunday, Citizens will travel back to Windhoek to face Black Africa, who have found the going tough this season. Black Africa are currently 15th on the log with 17 points and can be relegated if their fortunes do not change before the end of the season.
