The three winning teams for the Otjozondjupa Region at the 2022 Debmarine tournament that took place at Swakopumd over the weekend, received a hero’s welcome by residents at Otjiwarongo on Monday afternoon.
The Under-17 netball team of Otjozondjupa was on Sunday crowned the overall winners for this year’s Debmarine tournament in the netball category after it defeated Erongo Region with 21 goals to 14 in the finals.
The region’s boys Under-15 in the 4x400m relay won silver medals at the tournament, while their soccer team for Under-15 came in third to Oshikoto and Erongo.
At the brief welcoming ceremony at Otjiwarongo on Monday, Governor James Uerikua was in awe as he welcomed them.
Uerikua urged all team members to keep on practicing and improving their skills.
He also called on them to remain disciplined and obedient to their coaches as well as to their parents.
“We are here to celebrate with you on your achievement, as your achievement is everyone’s achievement,” he said.
Uerikua also thanked all the organising team members and coaches of the teams.
The winners each received shopping vouchers for footwear worth N.dollars 1 500, and N.dollars 10 000 vouchers for their schools, said the netball coach, Charlene Bock.
