Residents of the Otjozondjupa Region on Friday expressed satisfaction with the State of the Region Address (SORA) which was delivered by Governor James Uerikua at a special council meeting of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council at Otjiwarongo.

The residents told Nampa in an interview that the SORA highlighted largely the development activities in the region, state of affairs of the social, political and economic stability of the region and also on crime activities committed most in the different towns, villages and commercial farms.

Golden Katjatako from Okakarara commended Uerikua on his efforts for the planned governor’s cup tournament set to kick off in July this year.

The governor’s office has pledged to sponsor the tournament with N.dollars 100 000 and also to use it in selecting the team members for the under-19 netball and under-20 football team.

Katjatako further praised Uerikua for revealing information about the 20 young people of the Otjiwarongo Constituency who have benefited from a poultry production project – receiving 200 chicks and feed.

Katjatako said it will be a success story if they turn out to become big poultry producers.

“However, the governor himself must do more in assisting them as youth unemployment in the region looks to overtake his efforts,” he said.

Eddy Kgobetsi on his part said besides a well-articulated SORA, Governor Uerikua as a young leader should hold regular meetings with the different segments of young people in order to hear from them on how the government could assist to reduce unemployment in the region.

Olivia Namukomba from Young Africa Namibia in Otjiwarongo said the SORA was impressive as it brought out issues faced by the young people and also gave the general overview of the region.

Other residents praised the political leadership of the region on the provision of serviced town land, housing, electricity to informal settlements and on their efforts towards the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

The Minister in the Presidency, Christine ||Hoebes, regional and local authority councillors and the general public also attended the SORA.
