The position of the Swapo Party coordinator for the Otjozondjupa Region will be contested at an internal elective party regional conference to be held in Otjiwarongo on Sunday.

The coordinator position has been occupied by Susan Hikopua since July 2012.

Hipokua on Friday told Nampa the regional conference will also elect candidates to the positions of regional party mobiliser and treasurer.

“All three key regional political positions of coordinator, treasurer and mobiliser will reach their expiry period of five years on Sunday,” she said.

Hikopua further stated that so far, the names of four candidates – two men and two women – have been confirmed as the official contestants for the position of party coordinator. These include, Imms Namaseb, Hambira Mate, Lovisa Iyambo and herself.

Hikopua however would not reveal the names of the candidates who will be contesting the positions of treasurer and mobiliser.

She only stated that over 80 delegates from the seven political districts of Okahandja, Okakarara, Otjiwarongo, Otavi, Grootfontein, Omatako and Tsumkwe will attend the elective conference.

“Delegates from the regional elders council, Swapo party regional youth league, women’s council and trade unions will also attend, including some of our national political leaders assigned to the region who will travel from the headquarters in Windhoek,” said Hikopua.

Patrick Xoagub and Clive Kavendjii are the outgoing treasurer and political party mobilisation officer for the region.
