Outjo man arrested for Mandrax possession granted bail

The 21-year-old suspected mandrax dealer who was arrested Sunday evening after he was allegedly found with 90 tablets of mandrax in his underwear at Outjo was on Tuesday granted bail of N.dollars 8 000.

The accused, Gerson Namaseb on Tuesday made his first court appearance before the Outjo Magistrate, Immanuel Udjombala.

Namaseb had opted to defend himself during court proceedings and he secured bail with one condition that he reports himself to the Outjo Police Station on Fridays at 08h00.

Public prosecutor, Adjah Nepembe represented the State in the matter.

The case was then postponed to 05 December 2019 to allow the police ample time to conclude their investigations.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Monday said Namaseb was allegedly monitored by the police from Otjiwarongo until his arrest at Outjo.

We had information about his drug dealing activities, and upon his arrival at Outjo from Otjiwarongo, we called him inside the police station for a body search, Mbeha said.

It was during this body search a total of 90 full tablets of mandrax with an estimate street value of N.dollars 10 800 were found on his body stashed in his underwear, added Mbeha.
