The Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) on Friday officially switched on the electricity to 192 houses in the Ombili informal settlement at Otjiwarongo.

Cenored board chairperson Moses Matyayi switched on the electricity and also launched the company’s customer service charter document which pledges to deliver quality services to its customers.

Matyayi said the newly completed electrification project for the 192 households has cost Cenored about N.dollars 1.8 million.

“We will also very soon launch another electrification project and we will electrify 100 more households in the same Ombili,” he said.

Out of the 48 600 residents of Otjiwarongo, 22 500 are inhabitants of the informal settlements, and this he said should force Cenored to strengthen its business plans and electrify the informal areas of the town in order to generate revenues.

From 2012 to 2022, about 1 192 households have been electrified in Ombili informal settlement, said Matyayi.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Julienda Kampungu a resident of Ombili said it is exciting to be connected to electricity as charging cellphones, ironing clothes, keeping food in fridges and watching television in their homes will now happen.

Otjiwarongo Constituency councillor and chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Marlayn Mbakera on her part said it is becoming hard to operate without electricity.

“Therefore, this switching on of electricity in Ombili is a game changer,” she said.
