A man died instantly Wednesday night after he was hit by a vehicle on the road between the Queen Sofia Government Resettlement Farm and Outjo in the Otjiwarongo district.

The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) crime investigations coordinator in the Otjozondjupa Region, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas, on Thursday said the deceased was a farmworker who was identified by his employer as Gervasius Nghishishi.

“Nghishishi’s age is unknown at the moment as no national identity documents were found on him. He is suspected to be of Angolan origin,” she said.

The senior police officer further said Nghishishi was walking from the direction of Otjiwarongo around 21h20 when the vehicle hit him. He died on the spot.

The 58-year-old male driver was being questioned at the Otjiwarongo Police Station on Thursday and a culpable homicide docket was opened against him, said Andreas.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
