Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Omusati

A man in Omusati region Monday died on the spot after he was bumped by a car in the early morning hours, the police have said.

Omusati Nampol spokesperson, Inspector Linekela Shikongo told NAMPA on Monday that Absalom Shikambe, 28 from Okapuku village was bumped by a white Toyota Hilux on Outapi-Oshakati road near Okalonda location, Anamulenge constituency at around 05:30.

It is alleged that the driver of a white Toyota Hilux was driving towards Outapi when she bumped a pedestrian who suddenly purportedly walked into the road and as a result, the pedestrian sustained serious injuries that led to his sudden death on the spot, Shikongo said.

Shikongo said the 57-year-old driver, who is from Valombola, Ongwediva, has a valid driver's licence, and no arrest was made.

He added that the case is pending further investigation and the decision from the prosecutor general's office.

The deceased's next of kin have been informed.
