Pensioner drowns in earth dam in Omusati

The body of a 64-year-old pensioner was allegedly retrieved from an earth dam at Onandjo village in the Omusati Region on Friday.

According to a weekend incident report issued by the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Sunday, the lifeless body of Bilha Titus was reportedly discovered by community members around 13h37 after she was allegedly seen the previous day leaving a cuca shop at the village.

The report said no foul play was suspected and the pensioner’s next of kin have been informed of her death.

In a separate incident, 25-year-old Jamelee Ortman was found hanging in her room at around 17h00 after she allegedly committed suicide on Saturday in Windhoek.

The reason for her suicide is unknown as no suicide note was found at the scene and no foul play was suspected.

Ortman’s next of kin have been informed of her death and police investigations in the matter continue.

A 55-year-old woman also died when the driver of a vehicle in which she was travelling with nine other passengers lost control after the right back tyre burst and the vehicle left the road and overturned.

The accident happened on Friday around 12h20 on the B1 road between Windhoek and Rehoboth.

All occupants, including the driver, sustained slight injuries and were transported to St Mary Hospital, where the deceased succumbed to injuries upon arrival.

The report further said the driver was arrested after he was discharged from the hospital for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Furthermore, three suspects, including a 14-year-old minor, were arrested for assault after they allegedly brutally attacked and stabbed a man with an unknown object at Outjo.

The incident occurred on Saturday in front of the Municipality Flats at Etoshaport at about 23h00. The victim allegedly sustained open wounds on his back, head and chin and was transported to a hospital where he is in a critical condition.

A 19-year-old man was also arrested after he allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl at the Okuryangava area in Windhoek on Saturday.

The suspect is set to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
