Peru Includes Germany-Born Defender Fabio Gruber for Upcoming Friendlies

Lima: Peru manager Manuel Barreto has named uncapped center-back Fabio Gruber in his squad for friendlies against Russia and Chile, the Peruvian football federation announced on Thursday. Gruber, who was born in Germany to a Peruvian mother, has made a positive impression this season for FC Nurnberg, which competes in Germany’s second tier.



According to Namibia Press Agency, Barreto has also included several other key players in his lineup. Veteran goalkeeper Pedro Gallese has been called up, alongside Copenhagen defender Marcos Lopez, Gremio midfielder Erick Noriega, and Vancouver Whitecaps forward Kenji Cabrera. These players are expected to strengthen Peru’s bid in the upcoming matches.



Peru is set to face Russia in Saint Petersburg on November 12 and will then travel to Sochi to play against Chile six days later. The squad selected for these international challenges comprises experienced players and promising newcomers, indicating a strategic mix aimed at both immediate success and long-term development.



The complete squad for the friendly matches includes goalkeepers Pedro Gallese, Diego Enriquez, and Diego Romero. Defenders on the roster are Miguel Araujo, Luis Abram, Fabio Gruber, Renzo Garces, Cesar Inga, Matias Lazo, Cristian Carbajal, and Marcos Lopez. The midfield line-up features Jeus Pretell, Erick Noriega, Jesus Castillo, Martin Tavara, Jairo Concha, Piero Cari, Piero Quispe, Maxloren Castro, and Carlos Cabello.



Forwards selected for the squad include Alex Valera, Yordy Reyna, Adrian Ugarriza, Kevin Quevedo, Kenji Cabrera, Bryan Reyna, Joao Grimaldo, and Jhonny Vidales. This diverse and dynamic group is expected to bring a competitive edge to the matches ahead.
