A member of the Special Reserve Unit of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) died on the scene on Friday, when the Toyota Run X sedan he was driving collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle at Oshakati.
Warrant Officer Frieda Shikole-Ashiyana of the NamPol Community Affairs office in the Oshana Region told Nampa on Saturday that the incident occurred near Emono village on the Oshakati-Oshikuku main road on Friday at around 21h00.
According to Shikole-Ashiyana, the oncoming Toyota Landcruizer left the road after the collision and overturned in the process, leaving its only female occupant and driver with minor injuries.
The deceased, Gwashinime Patrick was travelling towards Oshikuku with two passengers, who sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
“The Jaws of Life was used to cut the deceased out of the wreckage,” stated the Warrant Officer.
The next of kin were informed about his death, while a culpable homicide case docket has been opened at Oshakati police station in connection with the incident.
