A 58-year-old police officer allegedly shot and killed his wife, before killing himself at the Okuryangava residential area in Windhoek on Thursday.

Confirming the incident on Friday, Namibian Police Force Spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, said the incident occurred at about 22h00, when the alleged shooter, identified as Elia Sheetekela, a warrant officer and driver under Very Very Important Person Directorate (VVIPD) shot his wife, Asteria Shikalepo, age unknown with a service pistol.

The statement said, Sheetekela shot himself in the head and died on the spot, while the wife was rushed to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital, where she succumbed to injuries.

“The motive behind the shooting is unknown. The bodies were transported to the police mortuary and their next of kin have been informed of their deaths,” the statement indicated.
