Police officer shoots colleague at Katutura

A male police officer aged unknown died instantly after he was reportedly shot in the head with a service firearm by a colleague in Katutura on Friday.

A crime report of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) on Sunday indicated that the incident happened at about 23h10 when a quarrel broke out between the two men while drinking at a shebeen.

The two force members, both stationed at the Wanaheda police station were currently completing a course at the police college.

“The victim was declared dead by paramedics from the City of Windhoek at 00h44 and his body was transported to the mortuary,” it said. He was identified as Nestor Usebui while the 28-year-old suspect was arrested.

His next of kin were informed. Police investigations in the matter continue.

In a separate incident, a seven-year-old girl died when she was bumped while crossing the Ondangwa-Omuthiya road on Saturday at about 13h48.

According to the report, a 20-year-old female driver was arrested for culpable homicide and for not having a driver’s license at the time of the incident.

“The body of the deceased was transported to the Onandjokwe State mortuary and the next of kin have been informed,” it said.

In a similar incident, a female pedestrian of unknown age died instantly after she was reportedly bumped by a polo vivo while crossing the Oshiwambo-Onethindi main road on Saturday at about 21h35.

The vehicle overturned in the process, causing the 40-year-old driver to sustain a serious injury on the left leg while his passenger, age unknown died later, while being attended to by doctors at Onandjokwe State Hospital

Both deceased’s next of kin have not been informed and police investigation continues.
