Police seize N.dollars 11 million worth of illicit drugs in June

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) seized various types of illicit drugs valued at N.dollars 11 474 310 during the period between 01 to 30 June 2021.

NamPol in a media statement said a total of 89 suspects were arrested during the period, of which 81 are Namibian nationals, four Zimbabweans, two South African, one Angolan and one a Congolese national.

Cannabis worth N.dollars 4 620 190, weighing 462 019 kilogrammes; a total 56 996 Mandrax tablets valued at N.dollars 6 839 520; cocaine powder weighing 4 grams valued at N.dollars 2 000 and 126 units of crack cocaine valued at N.dollars 12 600 were confiscated.

In a recent interview with Nampa, NamPol spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said illicit drug crimes are hidden crimes and the police have a mammoth task to uncover these crimes through covert operations.

“It is the success of these operations that determine the number of cases. The status of the drug cases remains the same. There is a constant influx of drugs in the country from different entry points and undesignated entry points,” she said.
