Power outage caused by technical fault at NamPower line

A power outage that affected Windhoek, the coast, and most parts of the northern regions was as a result of a technical fault that occurred on a NamPower current transformer on the Kokerboom-Aries 400 kV line.

In a media statement issued early Wednesday morning, NamPower Manager of Corporate Communications and Marketing Tangeni Kambangula said the technical fault occurred 23:09 at which caused the blackout.

The generation station at Ruacana also experienced a similar fault.

Power supply was restored in phases to the affected areas, with Windhoek being the first to be restored at 00:48, followed by the coastal areas and the northern regions, Kambangula said.

The power supply has not been fully restored to all the affected areas however NamPower's technical working on the matter, he said.

The power at Rundu was restored around 03h00 on Wednesday morning.

The public is cautioned to treat all power lines and electrical points as live at all times when power supply is out, as it can be restored without prior notification, Kambangula added.
