An eight months pregnant Congolese woman was allegedly assaulted and raped by two men at the Osire Refugee Settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region on Saturday morning.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Community Liaison Officer in the region, Warrant Officer Olivia Haihambo in an interview with Nampa on Tuesday said the 23-year-old victim was alone in bushes near Osire where she had gone to fetch firewood.

The two men who allegedly raped her were part of four strangers who had approached her while she was busy collecting the firewood, Haihambo said.

“Two of these four men even assaulted her, tied her hands and later covered her face with a cloth before they took turns to rape her in a forceful manner while the other two were watching,” she added.

The woman was left there alone still tied, and her face covered in bushes, said Haihambo.

At 15h59 that Saturday afternoon, a passer-by found her stranded, and offered assistance by taking her to the Osire clinic where she was later transferred in a stable condition to Otjiwarongo State Hospital for further medical attention.

No arrest has been made and police investigations into the matter continue.
