President Hage Geingob and his delegation arrived in New York on Tuesday for the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

High-level debates were expected to commence on Tuesday under the theme, ‘A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges.’

The Presidency in a media statement on Tuesday said Geingob, before arriving in New York, attended the investiture ceremony of Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenço, as well as the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in London.

The Presidency further noted that on the margins of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, Geingob met with a team of Adam Global representatives.

The meeting was a follow-up to a dinner hosted last year in London in Geingob’s honour by Adam Global, which is initiating a programme of training for medical doctors in Namibia.

A team of doctors in orthopaedics, maternity health, accident safety health and eye health will visit Namibia to kick-start the programme in January 2023.

Meanwhile, while in New York, Geingob is expected to deliver Namibia’s statement at the UN Headquarters on Thursday.
