PRETORIA WORRIED AT AUDIT OUTCOMES OF GOVT DEPARTMENTS, AGENCIES

South Africa's Cabinet is very concerned about the audit outcomes of some government departments and entities, says Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe.

On Wednesday, the Auditor-General, Kimi Makwetu, had released figures indicating that irregular expenditure by government departments and agencies increased by almost 40 per cent to 46.3 billion Rand (about 3.3 billion US dollars) over the last three years.

Radebe, who was briefing the media at Parliament here Thursday on issues discussed at the regular Cabinet meeting Wednesday, said measures were being taken to prevent the situation from continuing.

"We are very worried on the issue of audit outcomes. That is why, as government, we are taking measures to curb the deterioration of these audit outcomes of all spheres. Ministers are called upon to ensure that all corrective measures be put into place to make sure that the matter does not recur," said Radebe.
