Namibian long-distance runner, Tomas Rainhold, finished 13th in the men’s marathon at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games on Saturday morning.

Rainhold, who was the country’s sole male representative in the men’s marathon, ran a time of two hours, 24 minutes and 30 seconds (02:24:30), 14 minutes behind the winner, Victor Kiplangat of Uganda, who won the race in a time of 02:10:55.

A group of 20 athletes started the men’s marathon.

In an interview with Nampa after the race, Rainhold said the race was a bit difficult for him on the day.

“We had a lot of climbs, which made it difficult for me to keep up with the leading group but I am happy I completed the race in a time, which is good for me at the moment,” he said.

The marathon runner added that he is now going to take a two-week break and then start preparing for other competitions he plans to participate in this year.

“I tried my best today but the course was tough and the leading group started creating the gap after 15 kilometres but I am happy that our team did well with my water points as well as my supplements, which I did not miss at any point,” said Rainhold.
