World Bank Group President David Malpass today received a phone call from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss follow-up to their COP26 participation. The following is the readout from the discussion:

The Secretary-General expressed full appreciation for the World Bank Group efforts to integrate climate and development, identify and implement priority projects, and combine large new sources and structures of financing.

President Malpass and Secretary-General Guterres noted that the World Bank Group currently provides over half the multilateral climate financing for developing countries and two-thirds of the adaptation financing. The Secretary-General also welcomed that the World Bank boosted climate adaptation support from 40% of climate finance in 2016 to 52% in 2020 and has a committed timeline for Paris Alignment.

The leaders said they valued the robust partnership between the United Nations and the World Bank Group and looked forward to continuing to build on that strong foundation.
