Two roads severely damaged by rain at Otjiwarongo earlier this year, were on Friday inaugurated after being refurbished.

The refurbished road portions, in Rikumbi Kandanga Street and Henk Willems Street, were officially opened for use by the public by Otjiwarongo Mayor, Gotlieb Shivute in the presence of officials from the Road Fund Administration (RFA), regional council and regional and local authority councillors.

Shivute in his official remarks said the portions that were refurbished cover a total distance of 570 metres.

“The municipality decided to interlock these two portions as it is durable, requires less maintenance and is cost effective to install,” Shivute said, adding that the exercise cost N.dollars 4 million.

Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua, who also attended the event, said the two roads play a major economic role as they link the Orwetoveni residential area and the town’s central business district.

“Investors are also largely attracted by improved roads as this makes clients to easily access their businesses and services. Therefore, your money is well spent on these two projects,” he said.
