Reverend Konjore dies

Former Member of Parliament, Reverend Willem Konjore died of a short illness in Windhoek on Thursday night.

Konjore died at the age of 75.

Confirming Reverend Konjore’s death to Nampa on Friday, ||Kharas Governor, Aletha Frederick said Namibia has lost an icon, someone who played an important role in the liberation struggle.

“Yes, I received a call yesterday that the reverend has died of short illness, we have lost someone that fought for the liberation of this country, someone that served in many portfolios in the Swapo Party, he offered good advice whenever we needed some. My condolences to the family and the inhabitants of this region,” she said.

Konjore was a member of the National Assembly between 1989 and 2010. He served as deputy speaker of this body from 2000 to 2005.

Konjore is a former teacher, former minister of environment and former minister of youth.

He leaves behind five children.
