Rock lobster TAC set at 180 metric tonnes

The total allowable catch (TAC) for Rock Lobster has been set at 180 metric tonnes for the 2019-2020 fishing season.

Announcing decisions taken at the 18th Decision-making Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Stanley Simataa told a media conference here on Thursday, the TAC will come into effect on 01 November 2019.

Simataa said the decision was taken to allow for the lobster specie to recover so as to not deplete the resource which is a little bit depressed.

He added that the TAC were approved for fishing rights that are still valid and not for new rights.

Cabinet also approved a TAC of 154 000 metric tons for hake for the 2019-2020 fishing season, effective as of 01 November 2019.
