The Roads Authority (RA) on Saturday announced that the MR118 Rosh Pinah to Oranjemund road has been closed due to the continued rising of water levels in the Orange River.

The authority in a media statement said as a precautionary measure, access will be provided to emergency services vehicles only.

It said road users are advised to use the Oranjemund- Lüderitz route in the interim, adding that the Oranjemund- Luderitz route will be open to the public between 06h00 and 15h00.

“Motorists are requested to plan their journeys accordingly, to exercise extreme caution when travelling on this route, and to strictly adhere to the road signs,” said the statement.

The RA on Thursday urged road users to exercise extreme caution when travelling on the MR118 road, warning that it could be closed due to anticipated flooding of the Orange River because of high rainfall in South Africa.
