RTC and RVTC sign MoU on training and manufacturing

The Rundu Town Council (RTC) and the Rundu Vocational Training Centre signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the area of training here on Wednesday.

The MoU will also include the manufacturing of skip containers which will be a shared responsibility by both institutions.

Speaking during the signing of the agreement RVTC Centre Manager Kornelius Lukas said the two institutions were just formalising a partnership that was already there.

This agreement is a significant milestone in our ongoing collaboration. For years RVTC and RTC have directed their focus and expertise on fostering training. Now is the right time to strengthen our cooperation and enhance our training policy, Lukas said.

The RVTC Centre Manager said these are demanding times in which the two organisations face complex challenges that have profound implications on training.

Getting job attachments for their trainees have been their challenge whilst RTC is challenged with needing more manpower as well as skill upgrades for their workforce.

These challenges Lukas pointed out called for new ways of working and for policy coherence built through engaging each other.

RTC has been helping us (RVTC) in job attachments of our trainees since our existence (1990) in the fields of plumbing, bricklaying and office administration. Moreover, the RTC also helped in employing RVTC graduates in various trades, he added.

By the signing the MoU Lukas stressed both the institutions' challenges will be a thing of the past and it will help in investing to empower the youth.

On his part, Rundu Mayor Isak Kandingu said the two institutions should not work in isolation but as a team in order to help develop the town and empower the youth with the necessary skills.
