Rundu man arrested for assaulting police officer

A 29-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in Rundu for allegedly beating and seriously injuring a 43-year old police officer with a pool table stick.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Crime Investigations Coordinator in Kavango East Region, Deputy Commissioner, Bonifasius Kanyetu told Nampa on Sunday.

He said the suspect was allegedly arrested for unlawfully and intentionally using a billiards stick to assault the victim several times at a local soccer clubhouse at around 20H30.

The suspect unlawfully and intentionally used a snooker stick by assaulting the victim several times until he collapsed, resulting into multiple serious injuries on his body, said Kanyetu.

The victim was identified as Hapolite Arbogas Kanyinga and he is currently receiving medical attention at the Rundu intermediate hospital where he was admitted after the assault incident.

Kanyetu said the suspect is expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate Court on Monday on a charge of attempted murder.
