SACU member states, Mozambique and UK sign EPA

The Southern Africa Customs Union (SACU) member states, Mozambique and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland sign an Economic Partnership Agreement on 09 October 2019 in London, United Kingdom (UK).

The agreement aimed at providing continuity and certainty in trade amongst the parties when the United Kingdom is no longer a member of the European Union (EU).

In a statement availed to Nampa, the agreement was signed by ministers responsible for Trade and Industry and authorised representatives from SACU member states, Mozambique and United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Namibia's Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development Minister Tjekero Tweja signed the Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of Namibia.

The signature of the Economic Partnership Agreement solidifies the strong trade relations and partnership between SACU member states, Mozambique and the UK.

It also reflects the commitment on both sides to maintain a strong trading relationship as the UK leaves the EU, the statement states.

The ministers reaffirmed the importance of ensuring a smooth implementation of the Agreement to achieve its intended objectives, through the finalization of the ratification processes.
