SADC INDUSTRIALIZATION WEEK BEING HELD IN WINDHOEK THIS WEEK

WINDHOEK-- The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Industrialization Week being held here this week provides a platform for intensifying partnerships between policymakers, the private sector and other stakeholders and for promotion of the sub-region's industrialization strategy at national and regional level.

This was stated by Namibia's Minister of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development, Tjekero Tweya, who opened the three-day event here Monday. About 150 manufacturers and exhibitors from SADC member countries region are exhibiting their products and services during the event.

This year's Industrialization Week is being held under the theme, "Promoting infrastructure development and youth empowerment for sustainable development".

Tweya said in March 2016, the SADC Council of Ministers agreed that the Industrialisation Week be held annually as a regional public-private engagement platform aimed at fostering new opportunities for intra-regional trade and investment.

He said platforms of such nature enabled companies operating in various industries to display their latest products and services, as well as to learn about the activities of other businesses, examine market trends and identify business opportunities.

"It is worth noting that exhibitions are very important events that bring producers and suppliers of goods and services, as well as potential customers together to provide the necessary exposure and opportunities for sales and business linkages," Tweya added.
