The Salute Boxing Academy will host its first boxing bonanza of the year, with a World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan African title and two national titles on the card.

The boxing bonanza which is titled ‘Salute in Action’ is slated for 01 April 2023 at the Roman Catholic Hall in Windhoek.

Fillemon Nghutenanye, who has a record of 11 fights – 10 wins and one draw – will headline the event as he will step into the ring to defend his WBA Pan African flyweight title which he won in May 2022 against Theo Nxayiphi from South Africa.

The national titles which are on the line will see Abed Shikongo defending his super welterweight title, while Jonas Erastus will also defend his national flyweight title for the first time against Gabriel Tomas.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, Salute Boxing Academy spokesperson Fredrich Nghiyolwa said it has been a tough ride since they launched the boxing stable in 2015. They are therefore calling on corporate Namibia and supporters to come in numbers during their first event of the year.

“The ride has not been easy and boxing as a sport is on the brink of dying if it is not supported by the corporate world in this country. We are therefore calling on Namibians to come in numbers and support our first boxing bonanza of the year,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kriata Kamanya, the chairperson of Salute Boxing Academy said the coaches and boxers are ready for the fight but as a stable, they are still in need of support from the public.

“Boxing is a good sport but it is also tough. I, therefore, call upon the nation to support us because boxing is one of the most popular sports in the country,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) Public Relations Practitioner, Nekundi Erasmus said MTC as the stable sponsors trust that Salute Boxing Academy will stage a good show on the day of the bonanza.
