Schools to close on 09 August as scheduled: Steenkamp

The school calendar indicates that school closes on 9 August 2019 and it remains as such, said a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Education Executive Director, SanetSteenkamp.

The statement was released in response to concerns communications issued by the Hardap Regional Education Directorates and others indicating the last day of school and hostel as 2 August without the approval and endorsement from the Executive Director, the statement read.

All Regional Educational Directorates that have issued such communications to schools are hereby directed to rescind same immediately and ensure that examinations continue uninterrupted as scheduled and no alternation of set timetables are to be effected by any school, read the statement.

The statement indicated that as far as deviation from school calendar is concerned, only Omaheke Directorate of Education requested and was granted permission to deviate from the calendar.

According to the statement, the deviation is only applicable to the hostel borders for whom special arrangements should be made by the regional office adding that the respective school should ensure that effected learners complete their examination as per their school schedules.

The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture wholeheartedly apologise for any inconveniences to all stakeholders the communication might have caused, especially learners, parents and guardians, read the statement.
