Three security guards from Namibia Protection Services were reportedly ambushed by five men at the Lafrenz shopping centre in Windhoek this morning while collecting money from two retail stores.

According to Sergeant Kauna Gabrielle from the City Police, the incident occurred around 09h00 when five men in blue overalls and reflector jackets allegedly ambushed the security guards while they were collecting money from the two shops.

“It is alleged that the officer in the cash-in-transit vehicle parked in front of the shop, forgot to lock one of the car doors and was attacked by one of the suspects while the other two were busy collecting the money,” she explained.

While attempting to drive away the guard in the vehicle was shot in the arm, forcing him to stop the vehicle.

The suspects got away with two boxes containing money and two pistols, the sergeant noted.

The security guard who was shot was admitted to a local hospital.

No arrests have been made yet and the exact amount of money stolen is yet to be determined.
