Rössing Uranium Marathon winners, Jeremia Shaliaxwe and Anna Amutoko, were on Thursday rewarded with development bonuses for winning the 2022 Rössing Uranium Virtual Marathon.

Shaliaxwe retained his title as the 42 kilometre (km) men’s open category champion, while Amutoko secured the title as the new 42km women’s open category champion at the event held in March this year.

The event, held under the theme ‘Live to run, Run to live’, marked the second virtual marathon hosted by Rössing Uranium, with the winners each receiving N.dollars 20 000 in prize money in addition to the N.dollars 20 000 development bonuses.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony here on Thursday, Rössing Uranium’s manager for corporate communications, Daylight Ekandjo, said credit should be given to the athletes for competing in the virtual marathon as it requires a lot of effort to run in a virtual setting.

“The development bonus is a N.dollars 20 000 voucher that is given to each athlete to purchase anything at OTB Sports and with this assistance, we hope they can prepare well for other competitions as it’s not easy to buy sporting attire or supplements,” said Ekandjo.

Shaliaxwe said the voucher will help him get most of the expensive things out of the way, such as sport gear and supplements.

Meanwhile, speaking at the same occasion, Amukoto, who got the development bonus for the first time, said the initiative by Rössing Uranium is a good one as it will help her to prepare well for other competitions, as well as next year’s Rössing marathon.

The N.dollars 20 000 vouchers received by the athletes are valid for three years.
