Shixwameni laid to rest at Sarusungu Cemetery

The remains of the late All People’s Party president Ignatius Shixwameni, who passed away on 10 November, were laid to rest Saturday morning at Sarusungu Cemetery opposite the University of Namibia’s Rundu Campus on Saturday.

Mourners, family, friends and All People’s Party members dressed in their party colours all came to bid farewell to Shixwameni.

The funeral was attended by President Hage Geingob who had conferred a State Funeral on Shixwameni.

Other leaders in attendance included McHenry Venaani of the official opposition Popular Democratic Movement, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and the Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, who directed the funeral service.

On behalf of the family, John Walenga thanked Geingob for according Shixwameni a State funeral.

Walenga also thanked Founding President Sam Nujoma and former President Hifikepunye Pohamba for their comforting messages to the bereaved family.

During the lowering of the coffin, Shixwameni was honoured with a 13-gun salute.
