Four minor boys aged between 15 and 17 were arrested on Friday along with two men aged 18 and 21 after they allegedly broke into the Halili Combined School in the Kavango West Region on the same day.

The Namibian Police Force (NamPol), in its weekend crime briefing report issued on Sunday, said the suspects unlawfully untangled the wire used to close a broken window of a storeroom and gained entrance.

They allegedly stole 10 (12.5 kilograms) maize meal bags intended for the school feeding programme.

The value of the maize meal bags has not yet been established, however all the bags were recovered.

According to the police, the minor boys were released on a warning and placed in custody of their guardians, while the two men are expected to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

In an unrelated incident on the same day, a 42-year-old man was arrested at Oniiwe village in the Oshikoto Region for attempted murder.

The man allegedly found a 50-year-old man sleeping in his room, woke him up and shot him on the left arm with a shotgun.

The suspect was arrested, while the victim was admitted to the Oshakati State Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

It is further alleged that the suspect and the victim are cousins, who share a residence.

The cause of the shooting is unknown and police investigations into the matter continue.
