A 66-year-old commercial farmer and his five alleged accomplices were arrested on Friday night after they were allegedly found transporting four stolen calves in their vehicle in the Hochfeld area.

Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the four calves were stolen from Farm Okorusengo in the Hochfeld area near Okahandja.

The farm belongs to the 66-year-old suspect, who is renting it out to another farmer, who is now the complainant in the case, said Mbeha.

Other suspects are aged 30, 35, 33, 22 and 45 years, added Mbeha.

“The six suspects were arrested at about 19h00 on Friday night while en route to Dankbar auction pens and were travelling in a vehicle which towed a trailer where the calves were loaded,” said Mbeha.

The calves, which are valued at N.dollars 52 000, were recovered and are in the process of being handed over to the owner, said Mbeha.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on a stock theft charge on Tuesday.

The vehicle and trailer are impounded at the Hochfeld Police Station.

Police investigations continue.
