Six suicides reported over the weekend

WINDHOEK; Six people allegedly committed suicide over the weekend, while two others died under mysterious circumstances, the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) reported on Sunday.

Sergeant Slogan Matheus told the media in the capital that an 18-year-old learner was found hanging dead from a tree in a riverbed between the Hakana and Wanaheda residential areas in Windhoek on Sunday.

He has been identified as Fanuel Mati. Elias Ndidalelwa Shimonga, 24, allegedly also hanged himself from a tree in a mahungu field at the Onamutayi village in the Ongwediva area on Saturday.

Moses David Hangome, 31, was also found hanging dead from a tree at the Oshoopala location, also in Ongwediva.

Matheus said the deceased was last seen on Saturday, and his body was discovered on Sunday.

Matheus Nghidengwa George, 42, allegedly hanged himself in his bedroom on Friday at the Oshalongo village in the Omuthiya area of the Oshikoto Region.

A Grade 10 learner was also found hanging dead in his bedroom at the Lizouli village in the Zambezi Region on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Simbuu Yange, 18. At the Oshikuku area in the Omusati Region, a security guard allegedly shot himself with a shotgun and died instantly.

The incident took place at the Mupewa Combined School, which he was guarding. The deceased has been identified as Tobias Panduleni Alugodhi, 27.

Matheus said the victim was up for transfer to work in Oshakati. All above deceased persons’ next of kin have been informed. No suicide notes were found in any of these incidences, and Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the skeleton of an adult person was discovered in the field between Post Orevia and Post Otjipandjarua in the Aminuis Reserve over the weekend.

Matheus said the remains were discovered by two men who were walking through the field.

Preliminary investigations suggest the person may have died some time back, as the body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition, and it seems wild animals might also have fed on the body.

In an unrelated incident, the 36-year-old Shigwere Blasius Tseya was found dead in his bedroom on Sunday.

The deceased was last seen Saturday evening. His next of kin are informed. Police investigations in both these unexplained deaths continue.
