SKW 1 and Cohen FC 3 Through to Final

Championship favourites, SKW 1 and Cohen FC 3, have qualified for the final of the Bank Windhoek Fistball National A and B leagues respectively, which will be held in September.

The last round of the league games before the championship deciders, were held in Windhoek on Saturday.

Defending Bank Windhoek National A league champions, SKW 1, once again showed that they are Namibia’s premier fistball team.

The team finished first on the league log by four points, convincingly beating Swakopmund’s SFC 1, Cohen FC 1 and Cohen FC 2 on Saturday.

The team only dropped one set against a feisty Cohen FC 1. By ending the day in first position, SKW 1 qualified for the championship final.

They will meet either SKW 2 or Cohen FC 1 who ended the day in second and third places on the log.

The two teams will meet in an elimination match to determine the second participant in the Bank Windhoek National A league championship final.

Neither SFC 1 nor Cohen FC 2 could improve their position on the league log on Saturday. They ended the day in fourth and fifth places and will play no further part in the championship.

Cohen FC 3 maintained their impressive run in the Bank Windhoek National B league. The Windhoek based team qualified for a fourth straight league final by winning all their games on Saturday.

They were pushed to their limit by a well organised and motivated DTS team. The close encounter, however, ended 4-3 in favour of Cohen FC 1.

DTS and SKW 3 will meet in the elimination match to determine the second team for the championship final of the B league.

SKW 3 had a remarkable day jumping from fourth to second place with some powerfull fistball.

Spiker Gernot Helm was particularly impressive for SKW 3 and his performance earned him the DANRIC Auto player-of-the-day award.

Meanwhile, SFC 2 were left out in the cold as they had to make do without a number of players who carried injuries. As a result, they lost all their games ending the day in fourth position, which effectively ended their hopes of winning the championship

The championship final, as well as the elimination games, will be held on 27 September 2014. The games will be played at the DTS sports grounds in Windhoek.
