SKW-1, Cohen FC-3 Through to Fistball Finals

Hot favourites, SKW-1 and Cohen FC-3, on Saturday booked their places in the finals of the Bank Windhoek Fistball National League-A and League-B, respectively, to be held next month.

The last round of games in both leagues were held in Windhoek on Saturday, with League-A defending champions SKW-1 once again proving their dominance with convincing victories over Swakopmund’s SFC-1, Cohen FC-1 and Cohen FC-2, to go top of the log.

SKW- trinket and Namibia’s most capped national team player, Michael Baas only dropped one set against a feisty Cohen FC-1. By ending the day in first position, SKW-1 qualified for the championship final.

They will meet either SKW-2 or Cohen FC-1, who ended the day in second and third positions. The two teams will meet in an elimination match to determine the second participant in the championship final.

In other results, neither SFC-1 nor Cohen FC-2 could improve their position on the league log on Saturday after both sides ended the day in fourth and fifth positions and will play no further part in the championship.

Cohen FC-3 maintained their impressive run in League-B to qualify for their fourth consecutive championship final after winning all their games on Saturday. They were pushed to the limit by a well-organised DTS outfit but managed to scrape through via a 4:3 victory.

DTS will lock horns with SKW-3 in the elimination match to determine the second participant in the League-B championship final. SKW-3 had a remarkable day, jumping from fourth to second place on the log following some powerful performance.

Spiker Gernot Helm was particularly impressive for SKW-3 and his performance earned him the DANRIC Auto Player-of-the-Day Award.

Meanwhile, SFC-2 enjoyed little success on the day, as they lost all their games and were without most of their best players due injuries. As a result, they ended the day in fourth position, which effectively ended their hopes of winning the championship

The championship final, as well as the elimination games, will be held on 27 September at the DTS Sports Grounds in Windhoek.
