Sports Feast Awaits Okongo as General Ndaitwah Tournament Celebrates 10 Years

Okongo: Sports enthusiasts are gearing up for the 10th edition of the Lieutenant-General Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah Tournament, slated for the Elia Weyulu football field in Okongo village over the weekend.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Chairperson of the annual tournament in honour of the retired army general, Dragon Kamati informed Nampa on Thursday that the tournament will commence on Saturday and conclude on Sunday, featuring football competitions in both youth and legends categories, as well as netball.

“This tournament is more than just a competition; it is a celebration of community and sports promotion, providing a platform for small businesses to trade at the field. We have experienced significant growth in terms of participants and community engagement since we started in 2015,” he stated.

Kamati emphasised that the purpose of the event is to engage the community through sports, noting that sports serve as a universal language that unites individuals from diverse backgrounds to enjoy, participat
e, and celebrate together in harmony.

He added that local businesses have generously sponsored the event to the tune of N.dollars 133 500.

The winning team in the youth category will receive N.dollars 30 000, a trophy and gold medals, while the runner-up will get N.dollars 22 000 and silver medals and the third-placed team will earn N.dollars 10 500. Additionally, all eight teams that reach the quarterfinals will be awarded a new football kit.

The champions of the legends category will take home N.dollars 16 500, a trophy and gold medals, while the runner-up will receive N.dollars 9 000 and silver medals. The third-placed team will earn N.dollars 6 000. Both finalist teams will be awarded a new football kit.

The winning netball team will claim N.dollars 10 000, a trophy and gold medals, while the runner-up will get N.dollars 7 000 and silver medals. The third place will receive N.dollars 4 500, while the fourth will settle for N.dollars 3 000. All four semi-finalists teams will receive a new kit.
